What is Resource Therapy?

Resource Therapy or Advanced Ego State Therapy is a brief Psychodynamic Therapy.
Resource Therapy (Advanced Ego State Therapy) is a brief psychodynamic therapy, based on the notion our personality is made up of multifaceted parts. These parts are called our Resources and we each have many Resources available to us.

In a therapeutic setting Resource Therapy (RT) is a finely crafted tool of precision that gives therapists the most direct access to the part of the personality that is experiencing the presenting issue and provides effective methods in order to resolve it efficiently. Thus Resource therapy addresses client’s issues in the most direct manner, with results being incredibly fast, effective, efficient and permanent.

Resource Therapy is the next evolutionary step for Ego State Therapy and is therefore referred to as 'Advanced Ego State Therapy'.
The term 'Resource' is self explanatory and this therapy utilises and shows how each individual can bring forth resources that lay deep or not so deep in one's personality to affect a fuller and complete action to help in coping with given situations in one's life.
Historically in Ego State Therapy these resources were called 'Ego States' within each persona or self.

Where did Resource Therapy come from?

Resource Therapy came directly from the Ego State Therapy paradigm.
The Ego State Therapy paradigm was developed years ago and stems from some great elder statesmen of Psychology and Psychoanalysis as far back as Sigmund Freud. It was a theory pioneered by Paul Federn, a student of Freud, and eventually became a full therapy and extended into Ego State Therapy by (husband and wife team) Jack and Helen Watkins in the United States in 1990's. The Resource Therapy module of this Ego State work has been extended by a student of the Watkins team who trained with them in 2000, Prof Gordon Emmerson, now resident in Australia.

The theory/therapy described on this site is mostly about that advanced form of Ego State Therapy developed by Prof Emmerson over the past decade. All training workshops and literature offered by this site stem from 'The Emmerson Method of Ego State Therapy', now coined as 'Resource Therapy'.
